Below you’ll find information on our local rules, dress code, and other useful guidance to help you make the most of your visit. If you have any additional questions, our friendly team will be happy to assist.
Penalty areas include any body of water whether or not marked. Relief is available for a player’s ball in a yellow penalty area (Rule 17.1d). Lateral relief is also available for a player’s ball in a red penalty area (Rule 17.1d(3)).
When a ball enters the Penalty Area from the 17th green side and the relief area of two club lengths is nearer the hole, the player may take relief under Rule 17.1d by using the Drop Zone positioned on the left-hand side past the first bridge.
Note: The marker has a key responsibility in assessing where the player’s ball enters the Penalty Area. Virtual certainty is based on a 95% probability that the ball is in the Penalty Area. The point of entry needs to be established by sight or otherwise on a just and reasonable assessment.
For clarity, the Drop Zone is not available to players whose ball enters the Penalty Area from the 18th side.
All staked trees are immovable obstructions. If such a tree interferes with a player’s stance or the area of intended swing, the ball MUST be lifted without penalty and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 16.1f.
The timber 150 yard markers are immovable obstructions. Rule 16.1b applies.
Stone or composite surfaced paths in the General Area are treated as immovable obstructions from which relief is allowed under Rule 16.1. Astroturf paths are part of the General Area from which relief is NOT allowed.
All fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions and relief may be obtained under Rule 16.1.
In addition, if a ball lies off the putting green in the General Area, and an immovable obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club-lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follows:
The ball may be cleaned when lifted.
In addition to the provisions of Rule 5.2b, practice before play or between rounds of a Stroke Play Competition is allowed on:
During play, those practice putting greens are defined as wrong greens (Rule 13.1f). A practice stroke intentionally struck outside of these areas is classed as practising on the course.
If a bunker is flooded and relief cannot be achieved within the bunker, the whole bunker will be classed as part of the General Area. Relief will therefore be available under Rule 16 for Abnormal Ground Conditions – Temporary Water.
Relief is available from greenkeeping vehicle marks in the General Area (Rule 16.1b applies).
In addition, abnormal ground conditions adjacent to works on the course are classed as Ground Under Repair (GUR). Please agree with your playing partner(s) or opponents before taking relief.
Improved Lies conditions are in operation from 1 October 2024 to 30 April 2025.
In closely mown areas of the General Area, relief may be taken by marking the ball, lifting it, and placing it within 6 inches of the spot, not nearer the hole. The ball may be cleaned when lifted. The lie may only be improved once.
If other conditions are encountered where relief is available, such as tractor marks or an embedded ball, relief must be taken in accordance with the relevant rule.
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF LOCAL RULE
In accordance with the spirit and letter of the Equality Act 2009 the following guidelines have been approved and are written with the intention of avoiding discrimination in any way. As with the vast majority of golf clubs we ask our members to adopt a minimum standard of dress and ask that visitors abide by the same code. Whilst the Management Committee identify and formally adopt appropriate standards, it is for ALL Club members to monitor compliance and politely ask members and visitors in breach of these standards to conform.
Collared and sleeved shirts, or those designed specifically for golf, should be worn with tailored trousers and tucked in at all times. Only footwear designed for golf should be worn. Shorts may be worn provided they are:
Polo neck tops may be worn on their own but all other forms of sweater, round necked, v-necked etc. must be worn with shirt as previously defined. Shirts must be tucked into waistband. Hats should be worn conventionally.
We do not allow denim jeans, track or shell suit clothing, combat trousers or shorts, beach style shorts, trainers, sleeveless or t-shirts, football type shirts, or shirts with slogans and zip up type bomber jackets. Trousers must not be worn tucked into socks.
The Professional and staff are instructed not to allow access to the Course or Clubhouse any persons who in their opinion are not dressed to the required standard.
Smart casual dress may be worn throughout the Clubhouse and tailored shorts appropriate for golf worn with a belt at any time. We do not allow ripped or torn jeans, track or shell suit clothing, combat trousers/shorts, beach style shorts, sleeveless or t-shirts, football type shirts, or shirts with slogans and zip up type bomber jackets.
Hats are not allowed in the upper floor of the Clubhouse, apart from the Balcony and Spike Bar. Footwear should be consistent with the smart casual dress code. Golf shoes and walking boots/shoes are only permitted in the Locker rooms, Spike Bar and Professional’s Shop. Dirty shoes and stockinged feet are not allowed in any of the Bars or Lounges.
Exemptions – The only exemption to the dress regulations will be for members or visitors who can provide evidence of any disability or illness which prevents them from complying. This should be provided to the General Manager before play and they will receive a letter of exemption, which they should present on request.
The General Manager, House Manager and their staff are instructed not to admit or serve any persons who in their opinion are not dressed to the required standard.
